Nathan Spencer Joins National Site Standard Governance Board
Nathan Spencer, Co-Founding Director and Managing Director of UKREiiF and AUSREiiF, has joined the Governance Board of the National Site Standard (NSS).

Nathan brings valuable insight from across the built environment, investment, regeneration and public sector landscape, strengthening the experience and perspective around the Board as NSS continues to grow.
The National Site Standard is the UK’s first independent workforce governance standard for construction and the built environment. It provides an auditable framework to strengthen leadership accountability, workplace culture, retention, inclusion and professional behaviours across the workforce and supply chain, supporting more inclusive, diverse and
high-performing teams and progress towards greater gender balance across the industry.
Strengthening the Governance Board
The NSS Governance Board is responsible for protecting the integrity and independence of the Standard and supporting its continued development as adoption grows across the sector.
Nathan joins Independent Chair Elle Cass; Phil Mayall, Developer and Industry Representative; and Brenna Baye, Legal and Governance Representative.
Through his leadership of UKREiiF and AUSREiiF, Nathan brings a strong understanding of the conversations taking place between developers, investors, public bodies and industry leaders, alongside the practical challenges involved in turning industry ambition into delivery.
Nathan Spencer said:
“I am delighted to join the Governance Board of the National Site Standard at such an important time for construction and the built environment. Creating consistent, transparent and independently governed workforce standards is vital if we are to attract talent, improve outcomes for businesses and support the long-term growth of our industry.
“Through my work with UKREiiF, I have seen first-hand the value of bringing organisations together to tackle shared challenges and drive positive change. NSS has established a strong foundation for collaboration across the sector, and I look forward to working with the Board, industry partners and stakeholders to support its continued growth across the UK.”
Supporting the continued growth of NSS
Founded by Gallaway and Construction for Women CEO Renée Preston, NSS was created in response to the need for a more consistent approach to how the industry supports, manages and retains its people.
As the Standard continues to build momentum, independent governance remains central to maintaining its credibility and ensuring workforce expectations are embedded from the boardroom through to site.
Renée Preston, Founder of the National Site Standard and CEO of Gallaway Construction, said:
“Nathan brings a valuable perspective to the Board. Through UKREiiF, he understands the conversations happening between investors, developers, public bodies and industry leaders, as well as the practical challenge of turning ambition into delivery.
“NSS is changing the conversation in our industry by putting people first. We cannot keep talking about housing, infrastructure and regeneration without being equally serious about the people expected to deliver it. Workforce culture, retention, inclusion and accountability cannot be left to chance or treated as a site issue alone; they need to be led from the boardroom and built into procurement and delivery.
“If we want stronger gender balance, a more diverse talent pipeline and high-performing teams, we have to create workplaces that work for everybody and remove the barriers that can prevent talented people from joining, staying and progressing.
“Having worked within construction throughout my career, I know that good people are the difference between a project simply being built and it being delivered well. The Standard gives organisations a practical way to set that expectation, measure it and improve it.
“Nathan’s appointment strengthens the experience around our Governance Board at a time when the sector is rightly placing greater focus on skills, long-term capacity and creating an industry people want to join and stay in. I’m delighted to have him involved as we continue to build the Standard with industry.”
Nathan’s appointment comes as NSS continues to strengthen its governance and expand engagement with clients, contractors, developers, public bodies and organisations across the built environment.
